UKOLUG MEETING (http://www.ukolug.org.uk/meetings/meetings.htm)
PATENTS INFORMATION - New Media, New Markets
Wednesday 21st March 2001
Information Skills Suite, Aston University Library, Birmingham
Course Leader: Stephen Adams (Magister Limited)
Over the last decade, access to sources of information on patents has
exploded onto the end-user market. This seminar will address the
issues of how - if at all - things have changed as patents
information has migrated from online via CD to web-based tools and as
producers have increasingly been directly marketing to different user
groups like attorneys and small inventors as well as to information
professionals. Has it made the professional's job easier? Is the
talk of "end-user" tools surviving the hype?
Sessions planned include:
· Review of developments in patent searching sources and tools
· End-user patent searching tools - the industrial perspective
· New methods of access to patent information - the impact upon a
public library
· Patents information - the needs of the small business
· Patents information - the needs of the attorney
· Round-table and Q&A session.
