Our learners almost inevitably click on adverts because they are told that
they have "a new mail message", which is something many of them recognise
because they do use e-mail, or are told that "your PC is not functioning at
optimum capacity", or something along those lines, and of course they're
trying to learn to use the internet as well as they can, so that'll help...
They often don't (to start with) have the contextual knowledge or
'technical' confidence to be discerning about everything that they're seeing
on screen, and are quite likely to do what they're told.
Just a comment, really - I know it's how advertising works, and we do show
them Google too...
