Conference announcement
"In times of trouble - diaster planning for academic libraries"
9.30 - 16.00, Tuesday 5th March 2002
Robinson Library
University of Newcastle
Disaster planning, prevention and recovery should now be an
established part of everyday management in academic libraries.
While major disasters are thankfully rare, minor disasters in the
form of floods, pest infestations, vandalism or localised fires are
still serious incidents, cause severe inconvenience and can be
expensive in terms of staff time or damaged materials.
This one day course will draw on expertise from the National
Preservation Office, Sussex University, Newcastle University, the
Northumbria Fire Service and a University insurance/loss
adjustment perspective.
Among the themes covered in this conference will be
* Writing a Disaster Plan and making it work
* Surviving a disaster and learning from the lessons
* Understanding the national disaster planning perspective
* Finding out about the UK and Ireland Blue Shield Organisation
* Preventing disasters in the first place
* Dealing with the aftermath of disasters - insurance issues
