Dear lis-linkers
In case you don't spot it in the national press - the long awaited
new online catalogue of the British Library Collections is now
available at
http://blpc.bl.uk/
For those who did spot it in the press - I hope it didn't take you as
long to figure out what they were talking about as it did me! The
Guardian snippet is headlined "British Library papers on the net" -
the text does eventually confess it's the catalogue, not digitised
documents. If I knew whether the Guardian or the BL Press Office was
at fault, I'd make my complaints accordingly.
And while I'm whinging - shouldn't there have been a bit more of a
fanfare? As it happens, I did get an email about the catalogue via a
subject interest group which includes BL staff - but shouldn't it
have been posted here. (I just checked the archive at JISCmail in
case I'd somehow missed it - no sign of publicity.) Why so low key?
It also isn't mentioned on the front page of the BL web site - the
National Sound Archive one is still top story. It does get a link
from the Online section. I haven't tried the site out yet, but I hear
one can order material from DSC, but not for the London Reading Rooms.
Anyone from the bashful BL care to comment?
Best wishes (even to St Pancras)
Ann Lees
