Dear List Members,
In response to questions on lis-link about the appeal for
support for the Diversity Council's bid to become an LA
Group, I'd like to say that the DC has yet to agree a
Constitution, but that the question about the involvement of
groups concerned with issues of sexuality, disability,
social exclusion, etc. is one that the DC is currently and
very seriously addressing. The DC is not an exclusive
organisation, but rather welcomes the involvement and
support of *all* concerned with issues of diversity and
equality in the library and information profession,
irrespective of their race, sexual orientation, etc.
Meetings are taking place to agree a Constitution, and one
of the sub-groups of the DC is Race, Class and Equality,
which welcomes input from anyone who would like to
contribute to this debate, whether their primary interest
be in the area of sexuality, social exclusion, disability,
or any other area of exclusion. Please contact
[log in to unmask] for further information, or
if you would like to receive copies of "Diversity", the
newsletter of the Diversity Council, which outlines the
aims and activities of the DC more fully, as well as
information about how to get involved.
Finally, the Diversity Council is working closely with the
LA to ensure the widest possible representation for the
addressing of these issues.
Best wishes,
Philip Pothen
