Re : Lifelong Learning Through Local Newspapers - 9th February 2001 from
1.30pm
Don't forget to book your place on the Lifelong Learning Through Local
Newspapers Seminar which will be held on Friday 9th February 2001. It
will commence at 1.30pm at Friends House in Euston.
The seminar is free and places will be allocated on a first-come
first-served basis. A programme showing the speakers for the day is
below.
It will be a very interesting and pertinent seminar and a summary report
of its proceedings will be published. One of the purposes of the seminar
is to encourage greater knowledge and use of the resources of local
newspapers to further support the Heritage Lottery Fund's initiative in
providing £5 million (in the first instance) for nationwide microfilming
of older local newspapers. This will be undertaken under the aegis of
the newly formed company, NEWSPLAN 2000. Microfilming is due to begin in
the second half of 2001 and London and South-East titles proposed by
LASER NEWSPLAN's Implementation Committee will be included, of course,
in this programme.
