This was on one of those "airport" documentaries- the passport photo shows
them unveiled, a female passport control officer takes them to one side
(possibly into a seperate room for very strict ones, I can't remember) and
they lift the veil to be scrutinised. Probably not feasible for a busy
library- and a passport can be carried around closed, which an ID card
can't!

Interesting question. I wonder what they do at passport control??? (Having
just been through myself and been stared at very closely and questioned
about my hair colour).

Subject: taking photos of Muslim women
For the first time we have had a completely veiled Muslim woman wanting to
register with the Library. Normally we take a digital photo of a student
which goes on to the College's Student Records database and is printed on to
their library card. As this student wasn't happy to be photoed unveiled, we
took a photo of her veiled. What do other libraries or colleges do? Please
email me direct. If anyone is interested, I'll precis the responses for the
list. Thanks,
