JOB DESCRIPTION - Learning Resources Officer
Post Summary
To assist the Learning Resources Manager and College Librarian in the smooth
operation of all College learning resource facilities.
Provide a cross-college open access IT service, as a member of the Learning
Resources Directorate.
To take an active part in the development of further learning resource
materials including: CD ROM, Internet and flexible learning materials.
Post Description:
What follows is a description of the nature of the duties of the post as for
the time being envisaged. It is not prescriptive and may be extended or
amended from time to time by the College Principal following full
consultation with the postholder.
1. To ensure, in collaboration with the College Librarian and
other learning resources staff, the operating of an efficient library study
facility for the benefit of all students and staff. To ensure that staff
and students are informed about the present learning resource stock and that
new materials are brought to their attention where appropriate.
2. To provide a full range of first level IT enquiries at
designated Learning Resources bases across college.
3. To support curriculum staff in the development of further
learning resource materials for student study.
4. To assist students in use of IT applications and in
acquiring the necessary expertise in handling information in different
formats.
5. To be prepared to take responsibility for the day to day
running of the Learning Resource Centre as necessary.
6. To undertake supervision; desk duties; general library
housekeeping; organisation and sending of overdue letters and general
administrative and secretarial duties within the Learning Resource Areas.
7. To operate computer software involved with stock control,
administration and security monitoring as required.
8. To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

5. Ability to develop, maintain and monitor a wide range of
physical resources

7. Ability to develop subject knowledge relevant to this post
8. Previous experience of using equipment/CD ROM, online
databases, Internet
9. Understanding the role of library services within curriculum
support
10. An appropriate professional library or information studies
qualification
11. IT qualification to at least level 2
12. Flexibility to work overtime and/or evenings as required
13. Pleasant, friendly, polite and flexible attitude
14. Responsible, professional manner to ensure the efficient
supervision of the service
15. Sense of humour
Desirable
1. Previous library or learning resource centre experience
2. Previous experience of reference/enquiry work, stock
selection, cataloguing and classifying
3. Degree or postgraduate qualification in Library and
Information Studies, or equivalent
4. Commitment to personal development
