Don't miss your chance to attend:

Effective information skills, teaching & learning for FE/sixth form colleges
A popular Library Association workshop on 20 March, in London

The changing economic and political context of further education is leading
colleges to examine every aspect of the service they provide for students.

Many librarians/learning resource managers see the active development of
information skills work as a crucial element of their strategy to enhance
the status of the library/learning resource centre and maintain a high
profile within the college. In many colleges the growth of SNVQs and GNVQs
has increased the need for students to acquire a range of information
handling skills and has provided new opportunities for librarians to work
collaboratively with lecturers.

The move towards various versions of resource based learning has given
further stimulus to information skills work. Librarians already work to
promote information skills teaching. However, recent research has shown
that many colleges would like to develop their approaches and offer more
sustained programmes of information skills.

Benefits from attending
Participants will examine a variety of activities for use with students and
will consider how to enhance their own approaches as well as sharing ideas
and revisiting the theories underpinning effective practice.

By the end of the event participants will have:
* identified the skills that students need to handle information
effectively in the context of the FE curriculum
* considered some learning principles underpinning effective
information skills work
* shared examples of effective practice in teaching information skills
* identified strategies for promoting information skills work within
their own college

Who will benefit from attending?
College and sixth form librarians interested in developing information
skills, teaching and learning, or those with experience in this work who
