The need to effect improvements in managing documents is already recognised
by many organisations. This course focuses principally on a strategic
approach to document management set in the context of business improvement
approaches such as knowledge management (KM), business process
re-engineering (BPR) and quality management.
The move from strategy to action is covered in regard to project
justification and programme and project management for document management
initiatives. A framework is identified which relates the concepts of
document, data, information and knowledge to enterprise knowledge management
and, from this, ways of developing a document management strategy are
presented. The document management marketplace and available technologies
are surveyed and some case studies are presented.
