Tate Library
Tate Library and Archive is a major research collection in the fields of
British art from 1500 to the present and international art since 1900.
We currently have these three opportunities - with the opening of a new
integrated Research Centre on the Tate Britain site in Spring 2002, this is
a very exciting time to join us.
Cataloguer
Salary: Up to £17,000
Joining a small cataloguing team, you will do original cataloguing and also
participate in readers' services and other duties. Ref. LAC1
Assistant Librarian
Salary: Up to £17,000
As part of the cataloguing team, you will undertake a range of duties in the
cataloguing, acquisitions and readers' services areas. Experience of
deriving bibliographic records is essential for this post. Ref. AL1
Both the Cataloguer and Assistant Librarian posts call for a qualification
in librarianship, or a related discipline, and you must have experience of
cataloguing using an automated system. Excellent organisational skills are
important; you must be prepared to work to targets to a high standard of
accuracy. You must also have good communication skills and the ability to
work well in a team. Experience of working in an art library and of
cataloguing exhibition catalogues, along with knowledge of, or an interest
in, 20th Century and/or British art would certainly be an advantage.
Familiarity with MARC21 and a working knowledge of one or more foreign
languages are also desirable.
Head of Readers' Services
Salary: £19,077
You will establish and develop a wide range of services to both internal and
external users of the Library & Archive in the new Research Centre. Your
responsibilities will include managing the daily running of the reading
rooms, so you will oversee a small core team of support staff and other
Library
& Archive staff who provide the services on a rota basis. You will need a
qualification in librarianship, archive administration or a related
discipline, and you must have experience of readers' services work. As an
experienced and talented manager, you will have the ability to motivate
staff effectively, plus excellent communication and organisational skills.
PC literacy and experience in the use of electronic and
online services and the Internet are essential. It's also advantageous if
you have knowledge of 20th
Century and/or British art, as well as experience of working in an art
library or archive. Some experience of delivering user education, an
understanding of copyright and a working knowledge of one or more foreign
languages are desirable too. Ref. HRS1
