11.10 The future of professional development. Susan Kay, Professional
Adviser, Professional Qualifications
11.45 Lifelong learning. Kathy Ennis, Professional Adviser, Academic and
Research Libraries
12.20 The benefits of international librarianship. Jill Martin, Head of the
International Office
13.00 Lunch. (A charge of 3.00 GBP will be made on the day for a buffet
lunch.)
14.30 Tour of The British Library at St Pancras.

The tour will last about one or one and a half hours and give a general
overview of the function and services of the Library. It will explain the
history and background to the Library and show some of the works of art.
Although it does go into some of the 'behind the scenes' areas, such as the
Mechanical Book Handling System and the Reader's Terrace, it will not go
into any of the reading Room areas.
16.00 Light refreshments. The British Library Exhibition Galleries are not
covered by the tour so people are advised to make time for a wander round
afterwards.
