whether or not in membership of the Institute

Four speakers talk about the difficulties - and success stories - in
developing new vocabulary tools for the changing and expanding needs of
users
B Skills and competencies for the intranet manager - 13 steps to intranet
success
Presenter Martin White draws on the experience of over three years of
intranet consulting to set out the 13 key factors in ensuring that an
intranet is a success
C People skills for knowledge management
Co-presenters Lesley Robinson and Christine O'Hare will examine how to
achieve positive outcomes in KM, aimed to appeal particularly to information
specialists starting to think about KM
D E-Government and local government: process and effects
A speaker from the Office of the E-Envoy talk about the strategy of
e-government, and three speakers look at implementation in central and local
government and the GLA
E XML - where to begin
Presenter Ross Dixon - head of the XML at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young - will
introduce the technology and applications of XML, widely viewed as the best
solution for structured data in text files
After lunch (12.30-2.30) the afternoon's lectures are free of charge.
However, admission is by ticket only on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Role of the Information Commissioner in Freedom of Information
Mrs Elizabeth France, The Information Commissioner
The Information Commissioner will look at the UK approach to Freedom of
Information, its relationship to other access rights; data protection and
human rights. She will look at the possible areas of tension, but propose
that an integrated approach to information policy should enable us to
develop open and accountable public authorities which respect the private
lives of our citizens
