The National Museums of Scotland Library offers the following short-term
post, and invites applications from experienced, self-motivated and
adaptable applicants who wish to join a team which provides a range of
quality information services to museum staff, researchers and the
public:
Assistant Librarian - Cataloguer
(Temporary post : August 2001 - March 2002)
In addition to a degree and/or post-graduate diploma in Library and
Information Science, you will have 3-4 years cataloguing experience
gained within an academic or specialist library.
The major responsibility of this post will be cataloguing of donations,
and you will liaise with other Assistant Librarians and senior Library
staff on prioritisation of material to be catalogued. You will be an
experienced cataloguer (UKMARC/AACR2) with an eye for detail, and you
will have the ability to manage an unpredictable workload. In addition
to good general ICT skills, experience of cataloguing using Dynix or a
similar integrated system is essential.
You will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Flexibility and adaptability are key requirements, as is a genuine
interest in contributing to delivery of quality services to National
Museums of Scotland staff and external researchers.
This is a temporary casual appointment which is available immediately,
and the salary will be in the region of £16,000. Job share applicants
will be considered.
