University Colleges and Research London Group
Cultural picnic at Kew.
Thursday July 26th 2001
Take the chance to learn more about one of two superb library collections as
well as to compare notes with your fellow library and information
professionals in the stimulating environment of Kew.
This special cultural picnic at Kew, organised by UC&R London, offers
delegates the chance to have a guided tour of either:
* one of the world's major collections of plant and fungal-related
specimens and botanic reference material at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew
Library & Archives,
* OR the opportunity to see how the extensive national archives of the
Public Record Office are organised and made available to the public.
You can also meet up with fellow delegates before the library tours in Kew
Garden's Café Alfresco where you can eat snacks and have drinks under
covered outdoor seating.
To make the event even more special, delegates can complete the cultural day
by taking the riverboat along the Thames from Kew to Westminster, giving
even more time to discuss the visits and talk about the latest developments
in the library world with colleagues - valuable "time-out" to share ideas
and develop creativity.
The timetable, which delegates can join (or leave!) at any point is:
Thursday 26th July
12.30pm - Meet by Kew Main Gate (on Kew Green) for entry to Kew to eat at
Café Alfresco
1.45 pm - All meet by Kew Main Gate to divide into two groups for visits to
Royal Botanic Gardens Library & Archives or Public Record Office National
Archives
4pm - Visits finish - stroll around Kew Gardens with your new friends
4.30pm (approx) - Finish the cultural day by catching the Riverboat at Kew
to Westminster Pier - price £7 single - takes approx. 90 minutes
