A few announcements from Manchester:
1. UmbrelLA 6
The Department of Information and Communications (formerly
Library and Information Studies) is pleased to announce
that they will be on stand number 13 at UmrelLA 6, this week. Please drop by
if you are attending, speaking or exhibiting.
2. Alumni
For many years The Department of Information and Communications has
maintained strong connections with former students, both Undergraduate and
Postgraduate. However, it has been noted by many that the Department does
not run a formal Alumni service. Therefore we are pleased to announce that
later in 2001 the University intends to launch a new Internet based service for
individual Departments to manage their own Alumni service.
Information and Communications would like to prepare for this event by
collecting contact details from former students prior to the launch. To best do
this, and to allow some form of interaction the Department have set up a Yahoo
Group which we would like you to join as an interim measure. Once you have
joined the group you will receive a newsletter from the Department, but will not
deluged with email. You may also use the other facilities such as the chat
board and the calendar to view our events diary.
To join the Information and Communications Alumni Group please go to:

If you have problems, or would rather wait until the launch of the MMU service
please mail [log in to unmask]
3. Web Site
The Department sneaked in its 'new look' web site at the start of the academic
year, last September. The re-vamp aimed to improve accessibility for all our
users. Old favourites such as Search Tools and Internet Resources are still
available, as well as information on all our courses. Our address has remained
the same, but you can also find us via: http://www.mmu.ac.uk/infocomms/.
You may also like to note that The Centre for Research in Library and
Information Management (CERLIM) can be accessed via their own URL:
