Our request for examples of indexing policies (sent 4th January) resulted in
no responses, and yet there must be lots of them around. It may be that
some people are reticent about coming forward because they don't think that
what they have is 'good enough' to share, or perhaps it is not a formal
policy but a set of guidance notes.
The fact is that we are starting from nothing; at the moment we don't have a
policy at all, and so any examples would be extremely useful. Come on now:
if you show us yours, we'll show you ours.
We are developing an indexing policy to guide staff in the selection of
terms from our own thesaurus, which is used for an online database of
education management documents. The objective is to achieve consistent
indexing practice by each member of staff.
If you have an indexing policy and are willing to share it with us, you can
either e-mail it to me ([log in to unmask]) or fax/post it to me at the
address below.
Thanks in advance.
