MIMAS Open Forum, 28 June 2001
------------------------------
The MIMAS Open Forum is an annual event which highlights current and
future MIMAS service developments. MIMAS hosts bibliographic reference
and socio-economic, spatial and scientific data for the UK academic
community.
There is no charge for attending the event which is open to all.
This year we are delighted to introduce two new services:
* zetoc (access to BL electronic table of contents)
* Archives Hub (a national gateway to archive collections held in UK
universities and colleges)
both of which will feature in the morning presentations and an afternoon
workshop on Bibliographic Services (with COPAC, JSTOR and ISI Web of
Science)
The other afternoon parallel sessions focus on
(1) JISC-funded science information systems, and
(2) on projects which seek to increase use of socio-economic data in
teaching and learning.
We are joined in the morning by two guest speakers:
Catherine Grout will talk about developing the Distributed National Electronic
Resource, and Prof Angela Dale from the Centre for Census and Survey
Research
who will present highlights from the 1991 Samples of Anonymised Records
and look ahead to plans for 2001 SARs.
In the afternoon we shall be joined by speakers from several UK HE
institutions.
