LIVING IN THE COUNTRY: what kind of library service?
CPI Library and Information Policy Seminar, Stamford, Weds 20 June 2001
The background is the concern about the quality of life for people in rural
communities, and how library and information services can best meet their
needs. The context includes the social exclusion, regeneration, and lifelong
learning agendas, alongside issues of access and remoteness, libraries'
experiments with alternative delivery methods, and the opportunities
available through ICT.
The seminar offers library managers an insight into the recent Rural White
Paper and an understanding of its policy implications for libraries,
together with practical examples of local/regional initiatives in policy
making, collaborative planning and service delivery.
Opportunities are built in throughout the programme for discussion and
debate on these key current topics.
