Dear Colleagues,
With reference to recent correspondence on LIS-Link about ILT
(Institute for Learning and Teaching) academic librarians who are
members of the AUT (Association of University Teachers) should
be aware of the recent information in "AUT Update":
"The Association of University Teachers is now exploring alternative
ways of implementing effectively the association's policies on
professional accreditation, after Winter Council decided to end
active support of the Institute for Learning and Teaching (ILT).
Following a strong debate on the association's future links with the
ILT, Council narrowly voted against recommending that its
members do not join the institute, and adopted the exceutive
committee's recommendations that the association 'no longer
continue its formal policy of active support'. Council believed that
the ILT had failed to make sufficient progress on issues called for
at its previous meeting in May 2000, such as streamlining the
recruitment process and ensuring that there is no link between ILT
membership and remineration."
