The updated NGfL portal has been launched at BETT (British Educational
Technology Show) today http://www.ngfl.gov.uk with improved functionality
and a new look-and-feel. The additions to the site include links to over 40
new sites which have been added to the 'Museums and Galleries', 'Libraries
and Archives' sections. The new features on the site cover educational
resources, news and events in the regions, a directory of educational job
sites, and 'Favourite Sites', selected by a featured personality (this
month, Lord Puttnam).
The NGfL is aimed at people interested in education in the broadest sense.
It is not exclusively for teachers and this is reflected in the 'What's New'
section, which will direct users to sites that may interest them as children
or lifelong learners.
The 'Libraries and Archives' section will continue to expand as more
organisations make educational resources available on the web.
If your organisation has not yet registered its website, information and the
online application form can be found by clicking on the 'Link Your Site'
button on the NGfL homepage.
I hope you will take a look at the new site. The design and functionality
will continue to develop in response to evaluation. The NGfL content team
are always interested in your comments, so if you have any feedback please
let me know.
Also, BECTa (DfEE funded agency that manages the NGfL) has just produced a
CDRom 'Making Web Sites Work' which has good practice examples of school and
FE sites and some tips on design more generally. It is available free of
charge - contact me if you would like one.
