The globalisation and development white paper of the Department for
International Development emphasises the British contribution to
international development in the realm of information services and
knowledge organisation. It stresses that there needs to be a pro poor
approach to research and the exploitation of research.
The Information for Development Forum has been working in this area
since 1983. It consists mainly of librarians and information
specialists who are involved in work on or in developing countries.
There might be others with an interest?
The next meeting is on 7th November at 2pm at the HQ of the British
Computer Society, 11 Mansfield St., near Oxford Circus (in London).
It will be a joint meeting of the International SG of the LA, the
Developing Countries SG of the BCS, the Information SG of the
Development Studies Association .. etc (which indicates it will
probably also be very small).
The topic will be an audit of what we know about pro poor
orientations, and the output a process to audit the implementation of
this policy area of the white paper.
The meeting will be followed by a reception hosted by the BCS.
Please email me if you would like to attend, so I have an idea of numbers.
