a) Embase renewal
b) BIOSIS Previews Agreement
a) Embase extension
-------------------
CHEST is pleasd to announce that the agreement for Embase is being
extended for a further year, from 1st September 2001 to 31st August
2002. There is no change in pricing for this additional year so it
remains as:
£5,600 for sites with 8 concurrent users (these are pooled)
£4,320 for sites with 4 concurrent users (not pooled)
£750 per concurrent user at NHS sites affiliated to licensed HE sites
There are currently 12 sites with 8 concurrent users, which means that
these sites have access to a total of 96 'slots'. Sites currently with
4 concurrent users may wish to upgrade to join the pool.
Sites not currently licensed for BIOSIS Previews are also welcome to
subscribe.
Note: An NHS "Affiliate" is an institution of healthcare/medical
provision (e.g. a hospital) which has arrangements with an Institution
of Higher Education / Further Education for the purpose of providing
teaching and learning in the medical and allied professions. The HE/FE
Institute will have to be licensed for EMBASE in its own right.
Further information about concurrency pooling and additional concurrency
for classroom use may be found in the current Agreement Overview at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/embase/overview.html
The only change to the current arrangement is that the service will be
accessed via the NISS BioMed Server, not from BIDS.
Sites currently licensed for Embase are requested to send a message to
[log in to unmask] as soon as possible, preferably by
Wednesday 18th July, to indicate whether they wish to continue to be
licensed. New forms (Licences and Addendum Forms for Affiliated NHS
sites) will need to be signed. These are available on the CHEST web
site.
b) BIOSIS Previews Agreement
----------------------------
CHEST is now able to provide pricing information for service provision
for the first year of the new Agreement for BIOSIS Previews (1st August
2001 to 31st July 2002). The interim period comes to an end on 31st
July.
The cost of data has been announced previously (see
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/biosis/) and service provision is an
additional charge.
Datastar:
£2,700 (years 2 - 5: £2,000 p.a.) for unlimited access - directly to
Datastar.
(Invoiced by Dialog/Datastar)
EDINA:
£2,000 for unlimited access (years 2 - 5 unknown)
(Invoiced by EduServ)
ISI:
USD 5,000 (years 2 - 5: USD 5,000 p.a.) for unlimited access - routing
through MIMAS.
(Invoiced by ISI)
Ovid:
£1,900 (years 2 - 5 unknown) service fee* - through BioMed server.
(Invoiced by Ovid)
* Additional access fees may be required.
If other data is being accessed through BioMed additional concurrent
users may not be required. If a site does not subscribe to resources on
the BioMed server a minimum of one (1) concurrent user will have to be
licensed. Access fees are £625 (+ VAT) per concurrent user.
Sites will have the opportunity to change service provider on the
anniversary date of the agreement, provided 3 months notice in writing
has been given to EduServ (CHEST) and the current service provider.
New licence forms will be available on the CHEST web site from Monday
9th July. Those sites which have been licensed for the interim period
are requested to send in paperwork as soon as possible to avoid a break
in service.
An 'easy to read' table summarising the above is available at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/biosis/service-providers.html
