Dear ILL Folk
I have just received the latest Customer Update from BLDSC with its
announcement about the change to their policy on North American theses.
I have 2 particular concerns
1) This is the first I have heard. The policy has come into effect and
we are only told after the event. If I had been asked before the
decision had been made, I would have wanted to know what charge would
have covered the cost of providing these theses. We are quite prepared
to pay more for them, although we don't pass the extra cost onto our
readers at present. It would be open to us to charge our readers more
for getting them if necessary and we would prefer this to having to
tell them to go and buy their own copy. I am concerned about the lack
of consultation over this.
2) North American theses aren't the only type of little used material.
Following the logic behind this decision, which section will be next?
And what chance will we get to have any say in any future decisions
like this one?
What does anyone else think?
