At our academic health sciences library, we would treat these classes of
journals in the following manner:
a. Journals available electronically only: full cataloging in the
OPAC, listed on our web journal page, and faculty notified of availability
b. Print journal with electronic component: As soon as the online
account has been set up, cataloguing in the OPAC, listed on web page, and
faculty notified
c. Print version donated, but not subscribed to: I question whether
you would have access to the online version if you have not paid for the
print. If it is available to all, then I wouldn't put it in the OPAC, but I
would list it on the web page, and I would notifiy the faculty. This would
also serve to let the faculty donator that his gift is important.
I don't think the record-keeping would be much more of a minefield than what
we have already.

Subject: freely available ejournals
Can I ask what others do about the following:
a) journals that are only available electronically
eg
Journal of Information, Law and Technology
http://www.law.warwick.ac.uk/jilt/
- high quality and refereed.
b) journals that you subscribe to in print and is freely available to anyone
electronically
eg
Law Society Gazette
http://www.lawgazette.co.uk/
The Lawyer
http://www.the-lawyer.co.uk/
c) same as b but the print version is donated to library (regularly/current)
not actually subscribed to
Do you include these, or some (if so how decide which titles to include?),
on your ejournals web page/listings?
For a) do you create OPAC records?
I have steered clear of these types as the maintenance and record-keeping
would be a minefield, but am coming under increasing pressure to include
them on our ejournals web listings.
Thanks very much.
