Andy,
As far as our course in biomedical sciences are concerned, we run group
projects (3-4 in each group) and assess in a variety of ways as outlined
below:
>when do they schedule the research methods input - first, second, final
>year?
Final (4th) year
>
>is the marking soley based on the final document or is a percentage offered
>elsewhere?
50% on research thesis, 50% on supervisor assessment (including
presentation as talk and poster), peer assessment and self assessment.
>
>are there any examples of research abilities and effort being assessed other
>than by a dissertation?
see above
>
>Any comments would be welcome.
Moving to group projects has eased the marking/assessment/supervising load
considerably.
