Integrating Research Into Teaching Practice in Psychology (R2P) Project
LTSN Psychology has received funding from the LTSN Development Fund
for a research project focussing on how psychology research can be
applied to various problem areas in psychology teaching. For more
information about the project, the proposal is available at
http://ctiwebct.york.ac.uk/LTSNPsych/r2pfunding.htm . I've been appointed
to manage the project, and I look forward to meeting at least a few of you
at the Psychology Learning and Teaching Conference!
So what problem areas in psychology are being focussed on?
In order to know what areas of psychology teaching to focus on, we're
throwing the question back at our community, and conducting a quick
'straw poll' of staff involved in teaching psychology:
What are the main problems or challenges you've faced in teaching
psychology?
We would appreciate it if those of you who teach psychology could jot down
a few quick thoughts in reply, and send them back to me at:

Responses won't be used in the research report - they're simply there to
give us an idea of areas of teaching practice which would be of particular
interest to the psych teaching community. We want the outcomes of
this research to be as useable as possible.
Are there any psychology teaching initiatives already using psych research?
In the next part of the study, we're looking for demonstration projects -
psychology teaching initiatives which have been based at least partly on
psychology skills and knowledge (e.g., theories of learning). These can
be initiatives already underway, or ones in the planning stage.
Demonstrator projects will be thoroughly documented and evaluated in
order to serve as models for subsequent initiatives.
If you're involved in such a project, or are interested in becoming
involved, please contact me via email ([log in to unmask]) or
phone (01904 433188) to discuss things. Please feel free to circulate this
email to your colleagues.
We'll also be reviewing the published literature on research-based
psychology teaching, so any reprints/preprints, or suggestions of
must-read reports and papers, are very welcome.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers
Lucy Zinkiewicz
