Information Officer
Due to an expansion of the Association’s activities and a move to the
electronic delivery of membership benefits, the AGI is seeking to recruit
an Information Officer whose prime remit will be to develop and maintain
the web site for effective service delivery and ensure that all new media
activities are delivered in line with the AGI brand. The Information
Officer will be responsible for the design, content and on-line experience
of the Association’s web site and will be expected to assist in the
coordination and evaluation of e-commerce and internet business
propositions for the Association. This will involve design concepts,
content and web services ensuring ultimate usability and member interaction.
The Association for Geographic Information (AGI) is a not-for-profit
organisation with the aim of maximising the use of geographic information
(GI) for the benefit of the citizen, good governance and commerce. It does
this through informing, influencing and acting on behalf of its members and
the GI community. The AGI secretariat is made up of a small team of five
permanent staff who, working with volunteer members, a Council and
committees, organise and deliver the day-to-day activities of the
Association.
Candidates should have 1-2 years + years experience in web design,
planning, infrastructure and maintenance. 1year + experience of Internet
or Intranet applications based on JAVA or ASP. Working knowledge of
integrating web sites with databases. Understanding of networking in a
Windows NT, UNIX environment. The successful candidate will be expected to
help integrate the web site into existing marketing practices and have an
understanding of the importance of a consistent well planned web site.
The salary is in the range of £19,000 to £24,000 and the contract is
initially for one year, extension subject to sponsorship (to be raised
internally by other team members).
