The attention of colleagues working in the fields of external geomagnetism
and/or space weather is drawn to the following session at the IAGA/IASPEI
meeting in Hanoi (19-31 August 2001).
Session G5.10
Title: Practical Applications for Monitoring and Prediction of Geomagnetic
Activity
Many organisations responsible for running magnetic observatories around the
world are coming under pressure to demonstrate practical applications for
the data they produce. This is also a time when the concept of "space
weather" is becoming a driving force behind much of academic space physics.
In this session we solicit papers which demonstrate the practical
applications of geomagnetic observatory data or derived data products,
either for near real-time monitoring or for prediction of effects associated
with geomagnetic activity. Papers concerning geomagnetic prediction using
data other than from observatories will also be considered in instances when
observatory data are used for evaluating such predictions.
