Hi,
In answer to Rob's question. If you're a UK national (even if you're based
elsewhere in Europe) you can't access any EU facility based in the UK.
Unfortunately, the two main "geochemical" facililties are at Southampton and
Bristol. However, there are many other centres elsewhere Europe. These are
listed at:
http://www.cordis.lu/improving/src/hp_ari.htm
An alternative way of accessing UK facilites is to find a European
collaborator (preferably from a less favoured region of the EU) who is
eligible to come to the UK.
Also, there are NERC facilities for the UK community (e.g. Edinburgh ion
microprope, Manchester EPMA facility, NIGL/SUERC). I think I'm right in
saying that these are available free of charge to all UK researchers by
submitting a research proposal.
Happy hunting
