MDSG 25th AGM
Southampton Oceanography Centre
University of Southampton
Our post-bags are getting fatter by the day with registrations, no doubt
triggered by the fast approach of the abstract deadline which is November
11th as advertised on the AGM web site
<http://www.soton.ac.uk/~cab1/welimage.htm>. Please note that the deadline
for the Pt-Pd session has already passed the deadline referred to here
relates to the general session and the comparison of ancient and modern
seafloor mineral deposits session on the Friday.
As yet we have had little response from postgraduate students which is
surprising considering the prize money on offer from the sponsors Rio Tinto
for the best student oral presentation and poster.
For those of you struggling to cobble together an abstract by the deadline,
we will accept a notification that you intend to submit an abstract if the
statement of intent [with title] is sent to us by the deadline [November
11th] on the understanding that if the full abstract is not sent by November
18th it will not be considered for inclusion in the programme. Please send
these to Clive Boulter at <[log in to unmask]>. The added incentive this
year is that the abstracts will be published in the Transactions of the
Institution of Mining and Metallurgy.
For those who plan to attend the meeting, but who are not intending to make
oral or poster presentations, I urge you to book as early as possible
because we have limited space in our lecture theatre and the centre
management will not allow us to register beyond the capacity of the lecture
theatre. This is a function of only lecturing to third year classes at the
Oceanography Centre and lectures to bigger classes are given at our main
site several miles away.
Regards Clive Boulter & Ross McGowan
