Does anybody know of a museum or gallery which successfully uses translation
(either written, audio or spoken tours) in local community languages. I
have spoken to plenty of places which use 'tourist' languages ie: the main
European languages plus Japanese and sometimes Russian. I have spoken to
the Ragged School about their use of written Bengali and am in contact with
someone from The National Railway Museum in York about their history of
different language use. I am obviously in contact with local community
groups and agencies responsible for ensuring good practice of translation in
galleries including use of braille and tactile diagrams but would be
interested in practice within a museum or gallery context.
Thank you in advance.
