Programme Manager, Development and Peacebuilding, International Alert
International Alert is an NGO which works with local partners in Africa,
Eurasia, Sri Lanka and has a developing programme in Colombia. IA aims to
build trust and confidence between divided communities, develop local peace
constituencies and create opportunities for dialogue. IA also has a very
active advocacy department which campaigns and lobbies at a senior level on
the underlying causes of conflict.
Our Development and Peacebuilding Programme seeks to generate international
awareness and action on the causes of conflict and provide proposals for
long term solutions. The programme consists of three components which
include working with partners, governments, IGOs and NGOs to impact
development co-operation, production of policy documents and strategies for
the EU Presidencies, the UN and the IFIs and engaging in substantive policy
research on emerging issues.
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Advocacy, you will be responsible for a
number of staff, including IA staff based in Kenya and other sites where
there are important programme components. You will manage, develop,
implement and co-ordinate IA's programme on development and peacebuilding,
as well as the development of a policy research agenda on broader
development issues. You will co-ordinate the work undertaken by IA's
project partners in Kenya and Guatemala and co-ordinate with European and
North American networks to increase the impact of IA's policy change
objectives.
You must be educated to degree (post graduate level) in macro or development
economics, international relations, conflict resolution, social sciences,
social development or a relevant field, and have demonstrable practical and
theoretical understanding of macro development issues. With at lest three
