2001 International Workshop on Automatic Speech Recognition and
Understanding
Madonna di Campiglio (Trento), Italy
9 - 13 December 2001
http://asru01.itc.it/
The 2001 IEEE workshop on Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding
(ASRU) is the seventh of a series of biannual workshops sponsored by the
IEEE Signal Processing Society. The workshop will focus on recent advances
and new paradigms and systems for automatic speech recognition and
understanding.
During the last decade, speech interface technology has advanced to a
point that it is no longer considered academic research only. The
increasing interest in bringing speech recognition technology to
real-world field applications suggests to organize a workshop where
students and researchers from academia and industry are stimulated to
collaborate and discuss on problems of common interest. This year the
technical program will comprise three keynotes, six sessions, three panel
discussions and a demo night.
Several outstanding speakers will be invited to contribute to the success
of each session, bringing their experience and providing their vision
about the future of this technology. Poster sessions will then allow to
every attendee the presentation of his/her research activity.
Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:
- Wireless ASR, Distributed Speech Recognition and Hands-Free Interaction
- ASR Robustness: Feature Extraction, Acoustic Modeling and Adaptation
- Broadcast News, Digital Archives and Audio-Video Information Retrieval
- Large Vocabulary: Language Modeling and Speech Understanding
- Multilinguality and Speech - to - Speech Translation
- Dialogue systems: Voice Agents, Applications and Field Trials
Attendance will be limited (about 180 participants) with priority given to
those who submit written technical contributions and to companies and
universities who will contribute to the demo night on the evening of
Tuesday 11th. In cooperation with ISCA (the International Speech
Communication Association), the workshop will also allocate a limited
number of student grants to qualified applicants. There will be no on-site
registration, and we strongly encourage early registration as it will give
us the possibility of estimating as soon as possible the number of
participants, in order to provide the best organization both at the
workshop site and for what concerns connections from/to the airports. For
those who will register in advance and then have their paper rejected,
there will be anyway the possibility of withdrawing without any penalty.
All papers must be submitted electronically in either PostScript or PDF
format, according to the instructions given in the Author's Info page.
DEADLINES
August 15, 2001 Electronic submission of 4 page full papers
September 1 Super early registration, before
October 1 Notification of acceptance
October 15 Advance registration, before

Overview
Speech Prosody 2002 will be an international conference aiming to bring
together researchers working in all areas of the field of speech prosody.
It will provide a natural forum for scientific exchange both for
established workers in the field and for those who are new to the area and
wish to get up to date on this exciting and rapidly expanding field.
The conference is organised by the Laboratoire Parole et Langage, CNRS,
Universit de Provence, Aix-en-Provence under the aegis of SProSIG, the

had almost 60 requests for the CD-ROM version of the corpus, and we will
send out the CDs and the documentation to those of you who have written to
us within the next two weeks. Unfortunately, our research budget does not
allow us to make any further sets. Therefore, we have set up two on-line
versions of the corpus:
1: Download page

Subject: Jobs service in the Speech Technology Network
Dear Subscriber,
You might be interested to know that the Speech Technology Network (STN)
has a new service for all our users: you can now browse available
positions in speech technology, as well as list yourself as an applicant
for free. Our aim is to have global and comprehensive listings, so please
spread the word about this new feature!
To view current vacancies and applicants please go to
http://www.speechtechnology.net/Jobs/
If you have a vacancy you would like to advertise through STN, please send
an email to Denise Capello (mailto:[log in to unmask]). Please
note that vacancy advertising has a small fee attached to it.
You are also invited to take a look at our much improved discussion
environment (go to http://www.speechtechnology.net and click on the
'DISCUSSIONS' button on the top bar). If you'd like to suggest a new
conference, please let me know! I hope you'll enjoy participating!
Kind regards,
Minna Kanerva
