In Gloucestershire we store individual site APs by map square but we also
store our limited number of 'collections' by flight. All are held in folders
in clear photo-friendly wallets. Both sets are plotted on a GIS overlay for
visual cross-referencing against the SMR but there is also an Excel table
which we use to list record details of individual photos and list SMR
numbers they show. I would like at some point to get this table loaded as a
seperate screen in the SMR itself.
It took us a long time to get them organised like this but it works well -
especially the GIS layer. We kept our collections together because they were
not taken for archaeological reasons (most are road scheme flights that we
have acquired) and many do not show the archaeology very well, if at all. We
would probably re-think this policy if this was not the case.
