If people really want to argue it is also the Central Asia Resource News.
I think it is one of the best acronyms I have heard for a while
Thank you

CARN, the Core Archaeological Record Index, translates from the Welsh as as cairn, barrow, tumulus, mound.. chief, principal.. support, foundation.. (Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru, 1950-1967). It was therefore too good an opportunity to miss, so apologies to the archives world.
We have not included short descriptions because the data is intended to be an index to further information available from each of the participating records. We are hoping to improve the clickable map in the near future.

Could I suggest Core Archaeological Index Record Network (CAIRN). A bit dodgy but a nicer acronym!

Are you aware that the acronym CARN is already in wide use in the heritage sector? A CARN (County Archive Research Network) card is a Reader's Ticket issued by many of the English Record Offices. I don't know whether any of the Welsh Record Offices have adopted the system.

Dear All,
www.rcahmw.org.uk/data/carn.html
A short note to announce that we have recently launched CARN, the on-line index to archaeological site information in Wales. CARN has been created by the END partnership of Welsh archaeological organisations, and includes data from the National Monument Record of Wales, Cadw, and the four Welsh archaeological trusts. Information from the National Museums and Galleries of Wales will be added in the near future. Currently there are over 120,000 records in CARN, each providing basic information about the site, including its name, type, and location.
