Creativity is the most important part of any new media project, whether it
is
commercial or fine art. This book is an introduction to producing digital
media and focuses on the application of traditional creative principles in
the digital environment. An entire chapter is devoted to creativity and
techniques for developing it. Chapters on the Digital Production Pipeline,
Design and Typography, Web Design, Video, Audio, 2D and 3D Animation share
principles and techniques for these media, and examine how professionals
create through case studies and interviews. It is an excellent resource for
students, design professionals, those interested in digital art and the
general public. The methods presented in this book are the result of
eighteen
years of teaching at the School of Visual Arts and over 25 years of
professional experience as an independent producer and digital artist. Since
taking over the MFA Computer Art department in 1998, Mr. Wands' students
have
won over 60 awards and honors, including the Best Original Web Art category
in the Yahoo "Best 100 Web Sites of 2002" (www.sva.edu/mfacad), the 2002
Whitney Biennial, the 2001 Leonardo Award of Excellence, and the Smithsonian
Museum of American Art New Media/New Century Award.
Special features include:
Fourteen interviews with digital designers, fine artists, curators and other
new media professionals, including Christiane Paul, New Media Curator for
the
Whitney Museum of American Art; Steven Heller, Art Director for The New York
Times Book Review; Isaac Kerlow, Director of Digital Talent for the Walt
