DIGITAL ART2001:
www.epson.co.uk/dpa

An invitation to contribute to a special edition of 'Art&Technology'
journal.

Papers due: 11th June 2001

Art&Technology online journal together with DIGITAL ART2001, EPSON Digital
Print/Screen/Audio Award and Croydon College HE School of Art, is organising
a special issue.

There will also be a printed version of the journal produced by Croydon
College HE School of Art, available after the DA2001 show.

This special edition will focus on the notion of 'Digital Art' and will be
in conjunction with Digital Art 2001. This term embraces all uses and
conceptual frameworks surrounding digital technologies in the context of
creative practices, and may cover art, mediation, design, performing arts,
architecture, new media and some areas of computer science.

We suggest issues related to:

- The language, definition, interpretation of digital art, hypermedia,
computer art, multimedia, electronic arts, etc.

- The relationship between digital creativity and the contextual framework
in which it operates.

- New media in contemporary art practice.

- Funding ICT within education.

- Role of Digital Art within Fine Art Education.

These suggestions are intended to be indicative only, and we leave it to
contributors to set the frame of reference in which they wish to work.

Authors may present their work in either of the following formats:

a)  NEW PAPERS
These are intended for those who are entering DA2001, undergraduates, and
postgraduates. They should be between 800 and 1,500 words in length. The
main purpose (from your point of view) is to make the existence
of your creative work, practice and thoughts known to others.

b)  EXTENDED PAPERS
These are intended for extended areas of research.
Articles should be 3000 - 5,000 words in length.
They could report research findings and new thoughts, or invite further
discussion, ideas and debate. These papers should be fully referenced and
include an abstract (200 words) and a short biographical note (200 -300
words).

Visual Material and Entries for DA2001
Links between theory and practice are welcomed. Artists interested in
participating in the Epson Digital Art Award are encouraged to provide any
additional material in order to reflect work in progress. Artists submitting
entries for DPA/DSA/DAA and Papers for DA2001 if deemed appropriate will be
provided with online links between both materials at the DA2001 website:
www.epson.co.uk/dpa

Delivery address

Those submitting papers should send a Floppy-disc (Word for Windows PC
format), 1x printed version, and A4 SAE.

By  MONDAY 11th JUNE 20001 to:

DIGITAL ART2001
PO BOX 8113
LONDON SE19 1ZA.

Note: Please do not send emailed submissions.
