Hi Karan !
University of Michigan at Ann Arbor used to have an extensive collection
(in the form of microfiche) of US Ph.D. theses.
One could get a thesis from this collection through the British Library.
Not sure whether it has a search facility on the Internet. Try:
http://www.umich.edu/
or
http://www.lib.umich.edu/
You may also try writing to specific research groups for a list of their
PhD theses. Some research groups put up this list on their respective
websites, too. For example, take a look at the website of Geotechnical
Research Centre, Univ. of Western Ontario, Canada:
http://www.engga.uwo.ca/research/grc/Default.htm
Hope this is of some help.
Best wishes,
