Annual Field Meeting to Canterbury
Channel Tunnel Rail Link
6th 8th April, 2001
The annual Engineering Group Spring Field Meeting will convene on the evening
of Friday 6th April 2001 and will be of interest to engineering geologists,
geotechnical engineers, engineering geomorphologists, civil engineers and
geologists of all levels of experience. The meeting will consider various aspects
of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in Kent and will visit a variety of sites of
engineering and geological interest.
Provisional Programme
Convene at 8.30pm in Canterbury for an informal drink and introduction to the
geology and engineering geology of the CTRL Project. The evening will provide
an opportunity to meet fellow delegates.
Travel by coach each day to selected localities along the CTRL route. A final
detailed itinerary will be available shortly together with detailed joining
instructions. The meeting will end during Sunday afternoon to allow home-bound
travel.
The delegate fee will be £55.00 for waged delegates and £20.00 for un-waged
delegates and full-time students. The fee will cover the running costs and lunches
on both days. Please contact the convenor as soon as possible to book a place on
the field weekend. Cheques should be made payable to the Engineering Group,
Geological Society and should be for the both the registration fee and
accommodation/conference meal requirements. It is proposed that on Saturday
night that delegates convene in Darwin College for a >Meeting Dinner at a cost
of £16.00 per person. Please would you advise on booking if you wish to attend
the meal. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food will be available.
Meeting accommodation will be available in either Elliot College or Beckett
Court in the University of Kent. Single standard rooms are available at £18.50
and ensuite singles at £26.75, bed and breakfast per person per night. Please
advise on registration your reservation requirements.
