CALL FOR PAPERS
Farewell to Heteronormativity:
Gender and sexuality re-negotiated in a Scandinavian context
Inter-disciplinary Conference to be held May 23-25, 2002.
Conference venue: The Humanities Building, Gvteborg University
Research intent on deconstructing heteronormativity has until recently been
rare in Scandinavia. However, this situation is in the process of rapidly
being remedied. Research has been instigated and new concepts have started
to appear. The Conference invites everyone in this field to present their
research. Among our many aims is to highlight the many 'labels' we
encounter within research directions in the field. What is the meaning of
'queer feminism', LGBTQ and bi-studies?
A conference in Gvteborg 1995 broke the silence in academia in Sweden
around homosexuality. Now, seven years later, the intention is to reflect
upon what has been accomplished and together with invited international
keynote speakers investigate the possible avenues for research which lay
open.
We invite interested researchers and students to send an abstract (maximum
of 300 words) of their proposed paper before October 1st 2001. The
abstracts, as well as the conference papers, may be written in a Nordic
language or in English. On the basis of the abstracts we will construct
suitable workshops and formulate the conference programme, which will be
sent out in November 2001.
We already anticipate the following areas: health and lifestyle; sexual
utopias; historical studies; and concepts developed within the gender
theoretical field. We will even invite politicians, government officials,
and representatives of NGOs. We hope that the conference can result in an
edited book reflecting the 'state of the art' of this type of research in
Scandinavia.
The conference is funded by the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research and
the National Institute of Public Health. Details regarding costs,
possibilities for financial support, etc. will be specified in connection
with the forthcoming official announcement and programme in November.
The conference organisers include: the Department of Gender Studies, the
Department of Social Work in Gvteborg, the Swedish Association of Gay
Students, the Benny Henriksson Memorial Library Network and the Swedish
Secretariat for Gender Research. We encourage you to spread this conference
information to everyone who may be interested in presenting a conference
paper.
Send your abstract, before October 1st 2001, as a part of an e-mail (not
attached document) to: [log in to unmask] You will find continuously
up-dated conference information on our home-page, www.genus.gu.se/lgbtq.
WELCOME!
