Dear all members of the drawing research JISCmail group. One member has
raised an issue privately with me and I want to share it with the group.
I am much heartened by the increase in debate and the increase in the flow
of information on this drawing research list. Far be it from me to put a
dampener on this but could I humbly make one suggestion. Where you are
moved to reply to a posting, if you decide your reply is intended for the
sender only could you send it to them as a private mailing and not to the
whole list.
In order to reduce unneccessary email it has been suggested that the
settings of this JISCmail group are altered by me such that each time you
click on 'reply' your reply goes to the sender only and not the whole list.
While this would undoubtedly reduce, for all of us, messages such as 'I wish
to join this list' or 'Happy Birthday Fred' it does have implications. I
think it would supress dialogue and potentially valuable snippets would go
to a few rather than the many. I think it would reduce the sense of drawing
community we are trying to build up. For me, I would rather be included in
the broader dialogue at the expense of having to delete a few messages which
I felt were irrelevant to me than to be exposed only to selective postings.
However we can assist those who receive large numbers of emails or who have
to access their mail via a slow modem by considering whether a posting is
relevant to the group or just an individual. Having said this, can I
encourage everyone to send emails about drawing research to this group -
after all, that is why we have joined this list.
Best wishes to all our 38 readers
