First of all, appologies if I've missed the point - I often do as I find
words very ambiguous.
The question you raise for me is "credibility" with who? "Practice" suggests
to me working in a non academic situation, which for me suggests working
with others, whereas research relates to academics as the "custodians" of
research. So where is your bridge between practice and academic debate? I
don't know if it might be worth setting the context with "both sides" as it
were, as a way of developing the brief for your research and identifying
your audience - the people you want to have credibility with/influence/share
your journey with.
