I believe there are only around 5 manufacturers across the seas that
actually make the cases and many components for the laptops...hence the
similarities and the badging occurs later. I promise I am hovering over my
keys and have a gel wrist rest for my external mouse as I do not like the
Toshiba 'thing' (nipple) that sits in the middle of the keyboard!
But http://www.zdnet.co.uk/pcmag/flooks/2001/03/24.html provides a review of
the IBM TransNote, an idea that does not seem to have taken off but.....the
keyboard is at the front and it also uses the nipple mouse control. The
writing pad is similar to the SmartPads being sold in Dixons that work with
the Palm and pictures and notes can be drawn and synched or downloaded onto
the machine.
IBM laptops usually work well with Dragon and the highest spec of this
notebook may help. Pricey!

It's so that they can use a uniform touchpad on the front and uniformity
saves them money.
I need a laptop without this bar for a student with very short arms. She can
only reach 7 inches. No, it has to be a laptop, not an alphasmart or
calcuscribe as she needs to work on the floor and run graphics. The only
model I have seen is the SONY VIAIO which has a small screen and looks
pricey
- Anyone tried one with Dragon Naturally speaking?
