A topic which has become active again with us again is the Emergency
Planning procedures.
I would welcome any guidance/assistance of the group relating to the way
information is/is not imparted to Next of Kin of students and staff. There
is obviously varying levels of emergency, ranging from students taken ill
whilst on campus or in accommodation, to hospitalization, to heaven forbid,
major disasters.
Whilst obvious data protection issued abound, on a practical note, does
anyone have any policy/procedure in place regarding disclosure and next of
kin issues that might assist? It seems to be a difficult one, with one
suggestion that we should be specific in our DPA notice regarding the
circumstances when NoK would be informed, but this might prove to be a never
ending list!
Assistance would we appreciated.
