Dear Doctoral Students:
Please join us at the Academy meetings this August for the fourth annual
Critical Management Studies (CMS) Professional Development Workshop and
Doctoral Consortium.
The CMS program begins on Friday with two tutorials -- one on power and
politics (1 to 3:30 pm) and another on ethics (4 to 6:30 pm) -- and
continues through Sunday at noon with a series of plenary, parallel, and
small-group sessions. Key themes include: knowledge work/ers,
globalization, gender-race-class, and pedagogy. Invited plenary
speakers
include Mayer Zald (University of Michigan), Senator Paul Wellstone
(tbc),
and Richard Trumka (AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer). The full program,
background on the CMS group, and pre-registration information are
available
at http://aom.pace.edu/cms/.
IS THE CRITICAL MANAGEMENT STUDIES WORKSHOP FOR ME?
The Critical Management Studies (CMS) Workshop is an informal group
within
the Academy of Management. Participants in CMS are inspired by a variety
of
intellectual and political traditions, but we support each other in
developing scholarship, teaching, and practice that encourage economic
justice, human development, ecological sustainability, and class, race,
and
gender equity. CMS is a lively, international group whose PDW provides
an
opportunity for both intellectual stimulation and mentoring.

·Bart Victor (Vanderbilt University)
(2) Sunday August 5, 9 - 10:30 am, Doctoral Workshop on Research

ways to approach these topics:
