Hi folks,
CSL is back in operation. Joanne and I hope that you all had a pleasant
Easter break.

To kick off, and after a long delay, I am very pleased to announce the
publication of a journal issue I have recently edited, _parallax 18,
_Economies of Excess_. The contents are below.

Launching itself from the 'solar economics' of Georges Bataille and setting
off for the heart of the economic beyond, it not only features contributions
from but has also included the participation of, several members of CSL in
reviewing and other related activities.

A brief and selective overview: for those members of CSL interested in the
culture of technology and the Internet, I can especially recommend the
articles by Mike Weinstein and Michael Richardson. Alphonso Lingis' article
is, as usual, simply brilliant. For me, Zygmunt Bauman's article wins the
award for best article title so far for 2001. Meanwhile, Cathyrn Vasseleu
writes on transnational child adoption practices and Saskia Sassen
contributes an excellent article on the feminisation of survival. For the
Virilian-- or should I say Groucho?--Marxists among us, try the article by
Phil Graham and myself.

I would be grateful if CSL members would spread the word about this issue on
any relevant lists.

Best wishes

John
