Mediactive at Middlesex University

Part-time Research Studentships in Media, Communications and Cultural
Studies

Funding opportunities for Part-time MPhil/PhD

The awards include tuition fees (at the EU rate of £1400) and an
annual
expenses grant of £350.  They will be tenable for up to three years in
the first instance and, conditions permitting, may be renewable for a
further two years.

Mediactive is the Media, Communications and Cultural Studies Group in
the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies.  The School is offering
a

number of part-time Research Studentships in the following areas: the
cultural and media industries; media and communications management;
the
knowledge economy; archives and black history; digital culture;
cultural

meaning in production.

The research interests of the staff team offering supervision are:
Lynda Dyson: communications and news management, cultural and media
industries.
Roshi Naidoo: archives and black history.
Gary Hall: digital culture, electronic archives, cultural studies,
cultural theory.
Jonathan Rutherford: knowledge economy, cultural meaning in
production,
cultural and media industries.
Jo Littler: consumer culture, cultural and media industries.

Applicants will be expected to have a good honours degree and normally
a

relevant postgraduate qualification (MA or equivalent) in a relevant
discipline.  All applicants should submit a letter of application
(citing two academic referees), a full CV, and a research proposal of
three to four A4 sides, double-spaced.  The proposal should:

Outline the field of inquiry
Identify the topic and purpose of the study
Indicate the significance of the expected outcome
Include a short bibliography (no more than one side of A4)

The closing date for applications is 7th December 2001.  Interviews
will

be held in January 2002 and successful applicants will take up their
awards in February.
