Apologies for cross-posting. Please circulate.
CULTURE MACHINE: GENERATING RESEARCH IN CULTURE AND THEORY
http://culturemachine.tees.ac.uk
We are pleased to announce the launch of two new additional features to
the CULTURE MACHINE website: the CULTURE MACHINE INTERZONE; and the
CULTURE MACHINE VIRTAL SEMINARS.
The CULTURE MACHINE INTERZONE is a supplement to the CULTURE MACHINE
journal. It publishes research in culture and theory all year round
(rather than annually). It is also unthemed, thus enabling CULTURE
MACHINE to promote and support a far greater diversity of work. Other
than that, all the main features of the CULTURE MACHINE journal remain:
The CULTURE MACHINE INTERZONE:
is peer reviewed;
features both established figures and newer writers;
welcomes ‘interactive’ texts, or any other textual forms that take
advantage of and explore the uses and limitations of new technology;
publishes commissioned and unsolicited material from both academics and
non-academics.
The CULTURE MACHINE INTERZONE is being launched with two exciting new
publications:
Gavin Kendall and Mike Michael, 'Order and Disorder: Time, Technology
and the Self'
Simon Morgan Wortham and Gary Hall, 'Responding: A Discussion with
Samuel Weber'
The CULTURE MACHINE VIRTAL SEMINARS (best accessed with Microsoft
Internet Explorer) augment both the INTERZONE and the CULTURE MACHINE
journal to allow readers to take part in a series of discussion groups.
(For the next few weeks you are invited to join the discussions as our
guest. In the future we will ask you to register an interest with us so
we can give you your own e-presence within the discussion lists.)
The first topic of discussion for this new area of the CULTURE MACHINE
website has been taken from 'Responding', the interview with Samuel
Weber which opens the CULTURE MACHINE INTERZONE. Conducted by email
correspondence during September 2001, this interview had only just begun
when the World Trade Center in New York was destroyed and the Pentagon
badly damaged by a series of attacks. Although the interview had
initially been conceived as a contribution to a collection of essays on
the work of Samuel Weber which would concern itself with the discussion
of his work in general, the participants felt compelled to respond to
these events.
We would now like to use CULTURE MACHINE'S new discussion facility to
create a space for further responses: to September 11th and its
aftermath (including the 'war on terrorism'); and/or to 'Responding',
our interview with Samuel Weber.
The CULTURE MACHINE journal, INTERZONE and VIRTAL SEMINARS can all be
found at:

Yours truly,
Gary Hall
