About the Society of IT Management
Socitm was formed in 1985. It has grown steadily and now has around 950
members. The Society has seen major changes over the years evolving from a
little known organisation to its current well regarded position.

OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of the Society is to promote the effective and
efficient use of Information Technology in Local Government and the Public
Sector.
In furtherance of the primary objective of the Society, the Society shall
have the following secondary objectives:-
to provide a forum in which members of the Society can discuss and confer on
all aspects of the application of information technology in Local Government
and the Public Sector; in co-operation with appropriate other bodies to
encourage and promote recognised professional standards among those engaged
in the information technology management function in Local Government and
the Public Sector; to provide a source of professional advice on the
application of information technology in Local Government and the Public
Sector; to confer, liaise with and, where appropriate, advise other bodies
on matters concerning the information technology management function in
Local Government and the Public Sector; to circulate literature and
information and to hold meetings relating to the objectives and affairs of
the Society; to promote the proper recognition, use and development of the
information technology management function in Local Government and the
Public Sector.
